Public Notice Roundup: Health Alerts and Major Infrastructure Updates for 10 March

Public Health Alert: Measles Advisory for Western Sydney

NSW Health has issued an urgent advisory for residents and visitors in Western Sydney to monitor for symptoms of measles. This notice follows the confirmation of a new case with no known contact with previous infections, suggesting that the virus may be circulating within the community. Authorities have confirmed 23 cases in New South Wales since 1 January 2026.

Residents are advised to watch for symptoms including high fever, sore red eyes, and a cough, followed by a blotchy rash. Those who are pregnant, immunocompromised, or have unvaccinated infants and believe they may have been exposed are urged to contact their GP immediately. Health officials recommend ensuring that all individuals have received two doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine, which is available via GPs and local pharmacies.

Transport and Infrastructure: Final Countdown for M12 Motorway

Transport for NSW has confirmed that the final phase of the M12 Motorway project is underway ahead of its official opening this Saturday, 14 March 2026. The new toll-free motorway will provide a critical east-west link between the M7 Motorway and The Northern Road, serving as the primary access route for the upcoming Western Sydney International Airport. Commuters should expect minor traffic adjustments and final safety checks in the area throughout the week.

Additionally, the Sydney Metro West project has reached a major milestone with the completion of the 24-kilometre twin tunnels from Westmead to the Sydney CBD. While tunnelling is finished, residents in the Hunter Street station precinct are advised that work has shifted to the disassembly of tunnel boring machines and the commencement of internal track fit-outs, which may cause minor localized noise during business hours.
