Public Health Alert: Measles Warning Extended

NSW Health has issued an urgent extension to the current measles public health advisory following evidence of local transmission in the Northern Sydney area. Residents and visitors who frequented the Northern Beaches between March 5 and March 9 are advised to monitor for symptoms. Specifically, health officials have identified exposure risks at Felons Brewing Co. on Manly Wharf, Donny’s Bar, and JB & Sons Restaurant. Individuals who were at these locations during the specified windows should remain vigilant for symptoms—including fever, sore eyes, and a cough followed by a red blotchy rash—until at least March 27, 2026.

Authorities emphasize that the MMR vaccine remains the most effective protection and is available free of charge for anyone born after 1965 who has not received two doses. If symptoms develop, patients are urged to call ahead to their GP or emergency department to ensure they can be isolated upon arrival.

City Council: Committee Meetings at Town Hall

The City of Sydney has scheduled a series of essential committee meetings for Tuesday afternoon, March 17, 2026. Convening at the Sydney Town Hall Council Chamber, the sessions will begin at 3:00 PM with the Corporate, Finance, Properties and Tenders Committee. This will be followed in quick succession by the Environment and Climate Change Committee, the Cultural, Creative and Nightlife Committee, and the Equity and Housing Committee. These meetings are open to the public and provide a platform for reviewing local infrastructure projects and community grant allocations.

Traffic and Transport: St. Patrick’s Day and Easter Show Prep

Commuters should expect significant pedestrian activity and localized traffic changes today as Sydney celebrates St. Patrick’s Day. Major celebrations are centered in The Rocks and Circular Quay, with the historic precinct serving as the hub for cultural performances and community gatherings. Motorists are advised to avoid the area around First Fleet Park and George Street where possible.

Additionally, the City warns of upcoming major traffic disruptions starting Thursday, March 19, for the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Road closures around Sydney Olympic Park will begin later this week and remain in place until late April. Public transport is highly recommended for those traveling to the city center today to avoid delays associated with the festival atmosphere.

Public Services: Waste Collection and Water Upgrades

The City of Sydney reminds residents that standard waste collection services will proceed as scheduled today, Tuesday, March 17. Bins should be placed at the kerbside no later than 6:00 AM to ensure collection. Residents are reminded not to overfill bins or block pedestrian access on footpaths. Meanwhile, Sydney Water continues its major infrastructure upgrades in the north-west corridor, including works at the Riverstone and Rouse Hill facilities. While these works aim to double wastewater capacity, local residents may notice increased heavy vehicle movements near construction zones throughout the week.
