City Notices: Redfern Street Closures and Urgent Measles Health Alert

Major Road Closures in Redfern for 'Sydney Streets' Event
The City of Sydney has announced significant temporary road closures in Redfern scheduled for Saturday, 7 March 2026, to accommodate the 'Sydney Streets' community festival. This initiative, which aims to support local businesses by transforming high streets into pedestrian-friendly zones, will result in the total closure of Redfern Street between Regent Street and Chalmers Street from 5:30 am until 11:45 pm.
In addition to the main thoroughfare, the following surrounding streets will be closed with access restricted to residents only:
- Renwick Street between Turner Street and Redfern Street.
- Renwick Street between Redfern Street and Wells Street.
- George Street between Wells Street and Phillip Street.
- Glover Lane between Turner Street and Redfern Street.
Motorists are advised that north/south traffic will only be permitted via Pitt Street. Public transport users should prepare for significant bus diversions in the area, and local residents are urged to relocate vehicles from restricted zones before the 5:30 am commencement to avoid towing.
Public Health Alert: Measles Warning for Greater Sydney
NSW Health has issued an urgent public health advisory following a confirmed case of measles in Western Sydney with no known source of exposure. This represents the fourth measles alert issued for the Sydney metropolitan area since late February, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in New South Wales to 23 since the beginning of the year. Health officials are concerned that the virus is currently circulating undetected within the community.
Residents who visited healthcare facilities or high-traffic public areas in Western Sydney during the final week of February should remain vigilant. Symptoms to monitor include fever, sore eyes, a runny nose, and a cough, typically followed by a red, blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, patients must call ahead before visiting their GP or emergency department to ensure they do not expose others in waiting rooms. Vaccination remains the most effective defense; anyone born after 1965 who has not received two doses of the MMR vaccine is encouraged to seek a free catch-up dose from their healthcare provider.
