Public Health Advisory: Infectious Disease Alerts

NSW Health has issued a critical update regarding measles activity across Greater Sydney. Following Clinician Alert SN:005/26, residents are advised to monitor for symptoms including fever, runny nose, and a blotchy rash. Recent cases have been identified in individuals with no travel history, suggesting community transmission. Exposure sites have been identified across the CBD, Western Sydney, and the Inner West. If you suspect infection, please call ahead to your GP or emergency department to prevent waiting room exposure.

Additionally, a health alert is active for the Greater Western Sydney region following the detection of Ross River virus in local mosquito populations. With warm, wet weather continuing through the Easter long weekend, residents are urged to apply repellent containing DEET, wear long-sleeved clothing, and reduce standing water around residential properties to mitigate the risk of mosquito-borne illness.

Transport and Road Closure Notifications

Major disruptions are scheduled for the rail network this Sunday, 5 April 2026, to facilitate essential testing for the Sydney Metro extension. The following changes are in effect:

  • Sydney Metro M1 Line: No metro services will operate between Tallawong and Sydenham. Replacement buses are running between Tallawong and Chatswood. Commuters are advised to use existing rail services for travel between Epping, the City, and Sydenham.
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Trackwork may result in amended timetables and increased travel times.
  • Olympic Park Precinct: Australia Avenue and Showground Road remain closed to general traffic to support the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Motorists should expect heavy congestion and are encouraged to use public transport, which is included in Easter Show ticketing.

Easter Sunday Trading Restrictions

The City of Sydney reminds residents that Sunday, 5 April 2026, is a restricted trading day under NSW legislation. Most major retail outlets, including Woolworths, Coles, Aldi, and large department stores such as Myer and Kmart, will remain closed. Small businesses, pharmacies, and select hospitality venues may remain open at their discretion. Standard Sunday public holiday surcharges may apply at cafes and restaurants.

Infrastructure and Maintenance Works

Ongoing construction for the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project will continue throughout the month. At the Orchard Hills site, residents may observe high-voltage equipment installation and station canopy steelwork. While access to private driveways is maintained, traffic control will be active on Samuel Marsden Road. Sydney Water also continues heritage restoration works on the Tank Stream culvert near Circular Quay; however, no water service interruptions are scheduled for the CBD today.
