Official Notice: Major Security Operations and CBD Transport Alerts for Monday, 9 February 2026

Significant Transport Disruptions and Security Operations
Transport for NSW and the NSW Police Force have issued a major travel advisory for Monday, 9 February 2026, due to an extensive planned security operation. Residents and commuters are advised that road closures and special event clearways will be in effect throughout the Sydney CBD and Eastern Suburbs. This operation is scheduled to continue through Thursday, 12 February, but significant afternoon delays are expected specifically on Monday. Authorities are urging the public to defer non-essential travel to the Sydney CBD during the Monday afternoon peak.
Commuters should note the following specific disruptions to public transport and road access:
- Circular Quay Bus Diversions: From midday Sunday until 2:00 PM Thursday, all buses that normally terminate at Circular Quay will instead start and end their trips at Martin Place. Affected routes include the 304, 333, 343, 392N, and 396. Passengers are advised to use the Light Rail or Sydney Trains to complete travel between Martin Place and the Quay.
- Bondi Beach Closures: On Monday morning, between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM, road closures in the Bondi Beach area will force routes 333 and 380 to divert. Several stops along Campbell Parade will be missed during this window.
- Special Event Clearways: Clearways are active across various city locations. Vehicles parked in these zones will be towed to maintain traffic flow for the security operation.
Public Health Advisories: Measles and High-Dose MDMA
NSW Health has maintained a high-priority alert for Monday, 9 February, regarding an increased risk of measles transmission in the Sydney metropolitan area. This follows several cases linked to overseas travel from South-East Asia. Health officials recommend that anyone born during or after 1966 ensure they have received two doses of the MMR vaccine. Symptoms to monitor include fever, sore eyes, and a cough, followed by a red blotchy rash.
Additionally, a high-dose drug warning remains active following the identification of high-potency MDMA tablets circulating in the community. These tablets have been found to contain significantly higher doses than average, posing a severe risk of hospitalization or fatality. Clinicians have also been alerted to a rise in multidrug-resistant infections, specifically gonorrhoea, and are urged to follow updated treatment protocols.
Public Service and Safety Announcements
Effective this week, the NSW Government has introduced strict new legislation targeting non-compliant e-bikes. Starting Monday, NSW Police have expanded powers to seize and destroy high-powered or modified e-bikes that do not meet the 25km/h motor cut-off limit. This 'crackdown' is aimed at improving pedestrian safety on footpaths and local roads.
In the Centennial Parklands area, 'bump out' operations for the Laneway Festival will be active on Monday. While the main event concluded on Sunday, heavy vehicle movements and localized access restrictions may continue throughout the day. Residents in regional areas impacted by the Waterfall Way closure are also notified that interim minibus services for students will officially commence operations today, Monday, 9 February.
