Public Health Alert: Measles Advisory for Inner West

NSW Health has issued an urgent advisory for residents and visitors in Sydney’s Inner West following the confirmation of two new measles cases as of February 16, 2026. While the cases are not directly linked to one another, both are connected to a previous instance involving a returned traveler from South-East Asia. Public health officials are urging the community to remain vigilant for symptoms, as the virus can remain infectious in the air for a short period after an infected person has left a location.

  • Symptoms to monitor: Fever, runny nose, sore eyes, and a cough, typically followed by a red, blotchy rash.
  • Action required: If you develop symptoms, please call your GP or emergency department ahead of time to ensure you can be isolated upon arrival.
  • Vaccination: Residents are encouraged to check their immunization records; two doses of the MMR vaccine provide lifelong protection.
