NRL Traffic at Sydney Olympic Park

Motorists should prepare for significant delays around the Sydney Olympic Park precinct this afternoon and evening. An NRL match is scheduled at Accor Stadium today, Wednesday, 8 April, with heavy traffic expected on major arteries including the M4 Motorway, Homebush Bay Drive, Parramatta Road, and Centenary Drive. Fans are encouraged to utilize public transport where possible, as parking in the precinct will be limited and congestion is likely to peak between 5:00 PM and the start of the match. Special event clearways may also be in effect, so drivers are urged to check signage before parking on local streets.

Sydney Metro: Late Night Service Changes

Commuters using the Sydney Metro lines need to plan for disruptions late this evening. From 9:50 PM tonight, no metro services will operate between Central and Sydenham. This closure is part of essential testing and preparation for the Southwest Metro extension and the eventual connection to the Bankstown Line. During this window, metro services will only run between Tallawong and Martin Place, and between Martin Place and Central. Passengers travelling between Central and Sydenham should use existing Sydney Trains services to complete their journey. Normal services are expected to resume by the early morning commute on Thursday.

Roadworks and Maintenance Updates

Significant roadwork is scheduled across the greater Sydney and regional networks today. On the Great Western Highway, geotechnical drilling and seismic testing are set to recommence at Mitchells Causeway this morning. Motorists in the Blue Mountains region should remain alert for changed traffic conditions and follow the directions of onsite controllers.

Additionally, essential night-time patching work continues on Chifley Road between Lithgow and Bell. These works occur between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM, Sunday to Friday, and may require intermittent lane closures to ensure the safety of crews and road users. In the north, the Warringah Freeway Upgrade continues with out-of-hours activities in North Sydney, Cammeray, and Neutral Bay. While major holiday-related closures have concluded, lane shifts and reduced speed limits remain in place around the Alfred Street and Miller Street ramps to facilitate ongoing tunnelling and surface work.

Commuter Tips and Travel Advice

  • Check the Opal Travel app or official transport websites for real-time updates before departing, especially for late-night metro replacement options.
  • Allow an additional 20 minutes of travel time if your route passes through the Olympic Park corridor during the evening peak.
  • Follow all posted speed limits in construction zones, particularly on the M7 Motorway and near the Warringah Freeway, where active work sites are present.
