Major Road Disruptions: Warringah Freeway and Harbour Tunnel

Commuters and holiday travelers heading north today, Saturday, 4 April 2026, must prepare for significant delays as one of Sydney’s most critical corridors remains heavily restricted. As part of the ongoing Warringah Freeway Upgrade, a full northbound closure is in effect from the Sydney Harbour Bridge through to Gore Hill. This closure includes the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, which is completely shut to northbound traffic through until Monday morning.

Motorists traveling from the CBD toward the North Shore are being diverted onto the Pacific Highway. Major on-ramps and off-ramps are also affected, with closures at Berry Street, Falcon Street, and Miller Street. If you are planning to cross the bridge, expect heavy congestion on the Pacific Highway and allow at least 30 to 45 minutes of additional travel time. Southbound lanes remain open but are experiencing rubbernecking delays near the construction zones.

Public Transport: Total M1 Metro Shutdown

The Sydney Metro network is facing its largest disruption of the year this Easter Saturday. No metro services are running on the entire M1 line between Tallawong and Sydenham. This total shutdown is required for essential testing of the Southwest extension as crews prepare for the upcoming integration later in 2026.

To assist commuters, replacement buses are operating between Tallawong and Chatswood. For those traveling between Chatswood and the City or Sydenham, you are advised to use the T1 North Shore and T4 Illawarra train lines. While most other public transport is running on a standard Saturday timetable, the loss of the Metro will put significant pressure on the heavy rail network. Ensure your Opal card is topped up, as replacement bus boarding can be slower than usual.

Regional Impact: Victoria Pass and Western Travel

For those making a break for the Central West or the Blue Mountains, the Great Western Highway remains a point of concern. The ongoing closure of Victoria Pass means all traffic is being diverted via a signed detour. While the detour is well-marked, it is adding approximately 15 to 20 minutes to the journey in good conditions. With high volumes of Easter Saturday traffic expected, this delay could easily double during peak midday periods.

Local Alerts: Haymarket and Moore Park

In the city center, the Asia Live 2026 festival has triggered temporary road closures in Haymarket. Little Hay Street and Kimber Lane are closed to all vehicles until midnight to accommodate festival infrastructure and pedestrian crowds. In Moore Park, the Sydney Family Show is drawing large crowds to the Entertainment Quarter. With the Metro offline, those heading to the show should prioritize Light Rail services from Central Station to Moore Park, as parking in the precinct is expected to reach capacity by early afternoon.
