CBD Traffic and Public Transport Disruptions

Major road closures remain in effect throughout the Sydney CBD and Eastern Suburbs today as part of an ongoing, pre-planned police operation. These restrictions, which commenced on February 8, are scheduled to continue until approximately 2:00 PM on Thursday, 12 February. Authorities have urged motorists to defer non-essential travel to the city center due to significant delays and the implementation of special event clearways. Vehicles parked in clearway zones will be towed at the owner's expense.

  • Bus Service Adjustments: Until tomorrow afternoon, all bus services that typically terminate at Circular Quay will instead start and end their journeys at Martin Place. Commuters should use the light rail or train services to complete travel between Martin Place and the harbour front. Impacted routes include 304, 333, 343, 392N, and 396.
  • Sydney Metro Closures: Full line closures are active today on the M1 Line. Replacement buses are currently operating between Tallawong and Chatswood. These disruptions are necessary for critical testing and commissioning of the Southwest Metro extension. Night works starting from 9:50 PM will also result in no metro services between Central and Sydenham.

Urgent Public Health Advisories

NSW Health has reinforced several safety warnings for the Sydney metropolitan area following recent developments in community health and public safety.

  • Measles Alert: A public health alert remains active following the confirmation of ten measles cases in Sydney since the start of the year. Residents are encouraged to monitor for symptoms—such as fever, cough, and a blotchy rash—particularly if they visited high-risk exposure sites in Granville or Parramatta earlier this month.
  • Illicit Substance Warning: Authorities have issued a high-priority warning regarding the circulation of high-dose MDMA tablets detected at summer music festivals. These substances have been linked to severe adverse health outcomes. NSW Health reminds the public that medical assistance should be sought immediately for anyone feeling unwell, regardless of the circumstances.
  • Regulatory Enforcement: Following the closure of five tobacconists in Sydney’s Inner West this week, NSW Health and Police are continuing a state-wide crackdown on the sale of illegal vaping goods and illicit tobacco. Over 60 stores have been closed since new enforcement laws were enacted.

Local Council and Development Notices

North Sydney Council is currently seeking Expressions of Interest for long-term strategic partners to shape the next chapter of the North Sydney Olympic Pool. This landmark project aims to integrate community wellbeing and inclusive programming with the facility's historic legacy near the Harbour Bridge.

Additionally, the City of Sydney is moving forward with several public space initiatives, including the official naming of Daranggara Park in Camperdown and Wiriyagan Place in Alexandria. Residents are encouraged to review ongoing proposals for outdoor alcohol restrictions on Jones Bay Road and provide feedback on planned accessibility upgrades for commercial premises in the CBD.
