Public Health Alert: Measles Exposure Locations

NSW Health has issued an urgent advisory following an increase in measles activity across the state, with 37 confirmed cases recorded since January 1, 2026. Residents in Wollongong and the Nepean Blue Mountains regions are urged to monitor for symptoms after new locally acquired cases were identified. Specific exposure sites from recent days include major retail hubs and childcare centers in Jordan Springs and Penrith. Symptoms to watch for include fever, sore eyes, and a cough, typically followed by a red, blotchy rash. Health officials recommend that anyone who has visited high-risk areas and develops symptoms should call their GP or emergency department ahead of arrival to prevent further transmission in waiting rooms.

Infrastructure: Darling Harbour Wastewater Repairs

Sydney Water continues to conduct critical emergency repairs on a major wastewater pipe located deep underground near Darling Harbour. To manage the leak and protect the local environment, teams are operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents and commuters in Ultimo and Glebe may experience increased noise levels and temporary partial road closures. Specifically, traffic diversions remain in place at the intersections of Wattle Street, Quarry Street, and Mitchell Street. While water services remain uninterrupted, the site at Wentworth Park will continue to house a temporary pumping station until permanent repairs are finalized.

Transport: Weekend Trackwork and Service Changes

Commuters are advised to plan ahead for significant rail disruptions scheduled to begin immediately following the Friday evening peak. On Saturday, 28 March, and Sunday, 29 March, trackwork will affect several major lines. Notable changes include:

  • Sydney Metro: No services will run between Macquarie Park and Victoria Cross. Replacement buses will operate between Macquarie University and Victoria Cross.
  • T9 Northern Line: Trains will run between Berowra and Central via Strathfield, with buses replacing trains at several intermediate stations.
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Services will be affected by City Circle trackwork, requiring passengers to use a changed timetable and alternative connections to the CBD.

Passengers are encouraged to use the Trip Planner or the Opal Travel app to check for real-time service updates before starting their journey.
