City Notices: Infrastructure Upgrades and Public Health Alerts for April 8

Public Transport: Metro Service Adjustments
Passengers using the Sydney Metro network are advised of essential nightly testing and maintenance currently underway to prepare for the Southwest Metro extension. On Wednesday, 8 April, no metro services will run between Central and Sydenham stations from 9:50 pm until the end of service. During this time, metro services will continue to operate between Tallawong and Martin Place, and between Martin Place and Central. Commuters are encouraged to use existing train services for travel between Central and Sydenham and should allow for additional travel time.
Roadwork Alert: Great Western Highway and Regional Connectivity
Transport for NSW has issued a situation report regarding resilience uplift and maintenance works impacting routes between Sydney and the Central West. Geotechnical drilling is scheduled to recommence at Mitchells Causeway on Wednesday, 8 April. Additionally, night-time asphalt patching work continues on Chifley Road between Lithgow and Bell. This work is performed Sunday to Friday, from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am, to minimize daytime traffic disruptions. Motorists should remain vigilant for heavy traffic volumes on detour routes and follow all posted signage.
Health Advisory: Influenza and Seasonal Safety
NSW Health has launched a new public health initiative to protect the community’s youngest members. As of this week, the state government has rolled out free nasal spray influenza vaccines for children under the age of five. Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact their local GP or health clinic to arrange a booking. Additionally, with the school holiday period underway, residents are reminded to take precautions against mosquito-borne illnesses. Recent activity of Ross River virus in the Sydney basin and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) risks in inland regions remain high; authorities recommend using repellent and wearing long-sleeved clothing during outdoor activities.
Public Exhibition Closing Today
Today, Wednesday, 8 April, is the final day for community members to participate in the public exhibition regarding the proposed Special Entertainment Precincts. The City of Sydney is seeking feedback on amendments to the Sydney Local Environmental Plan 2012 and the Precincts Management Plan. These changes aim to support the local nighttime economy and cultural sectors. Submissions must be received by the end of the business day to be considered in the upcoming council review.
Community Notice: Fuel Price Monitoring
The state government has announced a $2.2 million boost to the FuelCheck platform to increase transparency and compliance as residents face significant fluctuations at the pump. This investment follows reports of supply pressures affecting regional and metropolitan areas. Residents are encouraged to use the official app to locate the most competitive prices in their local government area.
