Health Advisory: Measles Vigilance in Western and Northern Sydney

NSW Health has issued an active advisory for residents in Western and Northern Sydney following the confirmation of several new measles cases. Official notices indicate that the virus is currently circulating within the community, with multiple exposure sites identified across the metropolitan area. Residents are urged to monitor for symptoms, which typically include fever, sore eyes, a runny nose, and a cough, followed several days later by a red, blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, health officials advise calling your GP or emergency department ahead of arrival to prevent further transmission in waiting rooms.

Additionally, free access to the Japanese Encephalitis vaccine has been expanded this week. Eligibility now includes individuals who frequent high-risk local government areas for outdoor recreation due to increased mosquito activity identified late in the season.

Transport Update: Major Metro and Rail Maintenance

Commuters are advised of significant service disruptions across the rail network this Saturday, 21 March. To facilitate essential testing for the Sydenham to Bankstown extension, no services will run on the Sydney Metro M1 line between Tallawong and Sydenham. Replacement buses will operate between Tallawong and Chatswood. For travel toward the City and Sydenham, passengers are directed to use existing train services from Epping or Chatswood.

Further maintenance is scheduled for the T9 Northern Line, with buses replacing trains between Hornsby and Strathfield. These works are expected to cause delays throughout the weekend; passengers should allow for extra travel time and check updated timetables via official transport apps before starting their journeys.

Local Event Notice: Stanley Street Pedestrian Zone

The City of Sydney has announced the return of the "Sydney Streets" initiative to Darlinghurst this Saturday. Stanley Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic between Yurong Street and Crown Street from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm. This temporary pedestrian zone is designed to support local businesses with outdoor dining, live music, and community stalls. Residents should note that special event clearways will be in effect, and any vehicles remaining in the restricted zone during the closure will be towed. Pedestrian access to local residences and businesses remains open throughout the day.

Public Service: Major Sports Congestion Warnings

Public service announcements have been issued for the Moore Park and Olympic Park precincts due to a high volume of concurrent sporting events. At Allianz Stadium, the Waratahs will host the Blues, while Qudos Bank Arena will see the Sydney Kings face the Adelaide 36ers. With the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Final also taking place at Olympic Park, parking is officially listed as sold out. Authorities strongly recommend the use of public transport, as ticket prices for these events include travel on the rail and bus networks.
